
2022 Tagline Scholarship Contest
What do New York State Vehicle and Traffic Laws for Pedestrians mean to you? How would you sum one of them up in 10 words or less? Walk Safe Long Island, a collaborative of health and transportation safety educators from across Nassau and Suffolk Counties wants your help in creating a tagline that conveys a New York State V&T Law for pedestrians.
Walk Safe Long Island will be awarding scholarships to two students who submit a tagline and explanatory essay to the 2022 Tagline Scholarship Contest.
Two winners, one in Nassau County, and one in Suffolk County will each receive a scholarship for $1,000.
Walk Safe Long Island’s 2022 Tagline Scholarship Contest is open to high school seniors, who are Long Island residents, and who submit a tagline and essay adhering to the following parameters:

Applicants must create an original pedestrian safety tagline that pertains to one Vehicle and Traffic Law for Pedestrians. Taglines should be no more than 10 words long. Examples of some famous taglines include:
I‘m lovin’ it (McDonald’s); America Runs on Dunkin (Dunkin Donuts); Just Do It (Nike) etc. -
In addition to a tagline, each applicant must submit an explanation of 500 words or less explaining:

Which Vehicle and Traffic Law for Pedestrians inspired the tagline

How you interpret and understand this law, in your own words

Tagline of 10 words of less; explanation word count of no more than 500 words

Digital submission in Microsoft Word or PDF format

Tagline and explanation may not contain profanity or lewd/inappropriate content

Submission of tagline, regardless of selection for award, gives the New York Coalition for Transportation Safety (award-granting entity) permission to use and re-purpose content for educational and promotional purposes related to essay’s original content
